Shelby Johnston, mezzo-soprano, is a Nashville native with three years of experience teaching! She graduated from The University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Throughout grade school she starred in musicals and operas, participated in TMEA Mid-State and All-State, received a full-scholarship to Tennessee Governor’s School for Fine Arts, and graduated with honor and distinction for her vocal excellence from Mount Juliet High School.
In college, Shelby was casted as Madame Flora in Menotti’s “The Medium,” as Malika in “The Flower Duet,” and Papagena in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” She has been featured at The Jackson Symphony, was a semifinalist in the National Orpheus Vocal Competition and a finalist in NATS Voice Competition. She has toured in New Zealand as a soloist in Benjamin Britten’s “Hymn to Saint Cecilia.” Shelby plans to continue performing throughout the region, instruct the next generation, hike with her dog Lacey-Belle, co-write with fellow musicians, and enjoy the town she calls home!
