David Kelley hails from our nation’s capital, Washington DC, where he grew up in a musical family. David began his journey as a self-taught instrumental guitarist and singer/songwriter. Currently, David is an active performer and teacher in beautiful Portland, Oregon where he performs as a one-man band, as well as being a member of the Kelley-Rogers Guitar Duo and the Oregon Guitar Trio. David studied music formally in college, receiving a Master in Music Performance with an emphasis on classical guitar from Portland State University. He studied guitar under David Rogers, Jesse McCann and Bryan Johanson and has performed in dozens of master classes with some of the world’s top guitarists, including David Russell, Ralph Towner and Andrew York. David is not limited to classical guitar though, he actively pursues studies in many styles of music including jazz, blues, rock, country and bluegrass. David has over 20 years of teaching experience with students of all ages and skill levels. He is a patient and enthusiastic teacher who combines the benefits of a formal music education with the spontaneity and creativity of being self-taught. When David is not playing music or teaching you can find him hiking around the mountains of Oregon or spending time with his partner Annie and his cat Bela.
