West Los Angeles, born and raised, behind a piano is where John has spent most of his days. John Rehwald hails from sunny Southern California, growing up in West Los Angeles most of his life. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 9 after an aunt gifted his family an old Brentwood upright and in high school discovered a love for composition after taking a music theory course. Following his passion, John Rehwald graduated from Occidental College in May of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition. While attending Occidental, he studied composition under Adam Schoenberg and piano under Hye-won Cho, while also writing for and performing in the chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra groups. In 2019, John moved from Los Angeles to Austin, where he found a new passion, teaching beginner piano classes to elementary school students after school. In his free time, John enjoys playing board games, shooting hoops with friends, and writing music. He aspires to go back to school and earn a masters degree in music composition and film scoring.
