Anna Byington is a classically trained cellist who currently performs and teaches in the Boston area. She began studying cello at the age of 12 with Kathy Ellis, a former member of the Miami Symphony Orchestra. She quickly found a passion in music making, and participated in various select ensembles such as BUTI Tanglewood Young Artist Orchestra and Nafme All Nationals Honor Orchestra. In 2018, Anna received her BM in Cello Performance from Boston University, where she studied with Rhonda Rider and Hyun ji Kwon. Shehas participated in master classes with many esteemed teachers and orchestral members such as Alan Harris, Norman Fischer, Mike Reynolds, and Mihail Jojatu. In her junior year, Anna also studied abroad at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Richard Lester. Upon graduation, Anna started working as a cello teacher for Bridge Boston Charter School’s El Sistema program.
The goal of the program is to provide empowerment through music to under advantaged youth populations. Her work there inspired her to pursue more teaching opportunities, and she is now a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
