Tony Hyde, a native of New Haven CT., holds degrees from the Boston Conservatory in Music Education and Composition (BM and MM) as well as extensive studies at the Berklee College of Music. He is a published composer and a former member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop in NYC.
For over forty years he has been a band director and instrumental music teacher in the communities of Cambridge, Stoneham, Cohasset, Millis and Somerville- from which he retired from full time teaching in 2000 after serving sixteen years as instructor and band director. For the past fourteen years he has been directing the Barnstable HS jazz program for large and small ensembles. His groups during the span have consistently earned gold medals in regional and state events. In 2014 they were awarded first place in the Berklee College of Music HS Jazz Festival in their class (LNC).He also spent five years as a faculty member of the Berklee Outreach program serving several public school music programs in the Boston system. He is also a professional percussionist with performances in the greater New England area since 1965.
