Ching-Pei Belle Kao was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, where she began her piano studies with some of the leading teachers back home, which included Hsiu- Ying Lin, and Hui- Hsin Yu. During the time, she aimed for the certificate of ABRSM piano grade 6 to 8 with the Royal Schools of Music, and she also participated piano competitions regularly and has once won the second prize of the International Piano & Violin Competition of Vienna in 2008. She was also the third prize of Baroque International Piano competition in 2009.
As a pianist, Ms. Kao wishes to continue pursuing her music studies and wishes to perform different genres of music. In 2012, she came to the United States for a Bachelor’s in piano performance at Cornish College of the Art, under the guidance of Dr. Peter Mack. During her first two years at Cornish, she also studied with Cristina Valdes. The years at Cornish have helped her to develop her ability and potentials of being a more knowledgeable and delicate pianist in term of performing skills and the depth of her musicianship.
Meanwhile, Ms. Kao was also participating competitions frequently. Some of the competitions included Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Competition and Beatrice Herrmann Preliminary Competition. She was also the prize- winner of both Classical Viennese Festival Competition and Russian Music Festival Competition in 2015 from Seattle International Piano Festival & Competition. In addition, to exploring her techniques and musical knowledge, she also attends masterclasses consistently. By far, her playing has directed by Jonathan Powell and Alexander Tutunov. Furthermore, Ms. Kao is also into developing her skills of playing in Chamber setting, during her past three years at Cornish, she has been performing with woodwind and strings players, and has participated in Bach 300th Festival in 2015 which she had chance to perform in MaCaw Hall with her chamber groups and some other locations for the Bach in the subway-Seattle run during the time. Ms. Kao wishes to have more opportunities to perform with others so she has joined the student chapter of Music Chamber Society at Cornish as well. In addition, she has also joined the Cornish student chapter of Music Teachers National Association, which she wishes to gain more possible opportunities of teaching music in future. Furthermore, Ms, Kao has performed in some retirement homes in Seattle.
