Kevin Burns

Kevin Burns is a Doctor of Musical Arts with degrees from UMass Amherst and LSU Baton Rouge.  As a saxophonist, Burns performed the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra by Ingolf Dahl with LSU Symphony Orchestra as a winner in the LSU Concerto Competition.  As a semi-finalist, Burns was invited to audition in New York City for the Concert Artists Guild Competition, and Indiana for the Fischoff Chamber Music Festival.  Notable performances include the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Concert Band  by Karel Husa at the World Saxophone Congress in Montreal, and those with the Baton Rouge Symphony, Springfield Symphony, Brattleboro Symphony Chorus, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Pioneer Valley Symphony, and the Pittsfield Symphony.  Burns founded and leads the New England Saxophone Quartet on soprano and also freelances on alto, tenor and baritone, clarinet, and bass clarinet.  As a jazz musician, Burns has played lead alto, tenor, and baritone with the LSU Jazz Ensemble, and baritone with the UMass Jazz Ensemble I, Chapel Jazz Ensemble, Amherst Jazz Orchestra, Jeff Holmes Big Band, and Buddy Lee Orchestra.  Burns also plays the piano and sings out of The Real Book and other popular music.  As a Bachelor of Music Education, Burns has the knowledge and expertise to teach any instrument with a uniquely diverse perspective.
