Malik Denny was born and raised in Des Moines IA where he began experimenting with hip hop and R&B. As a young talent he was offered local shows singing and rapping his original music. Post high school (December 2013) he majored in music at Grand View University in his home town, where he learned to play piano and learned musician fundamentals. He went on to graduate with a Bachelors from North Carolina Central University with a jazz performance degree (December 2019). There, he worked with jazz giants such as Nnenna Freelon, Lalah Hathaway, and Brandford Marsalis. During and after college, he’s had the privilege of working with all different kinds of local musicians, and has gained teaching experience as a mentor and leader for incoming freshman and underclassmen during his later years of college. He has taught many private lessons to children and young adults throughout his career. He considers it very important to cater to the individuals needs and desires to instruct them how to independently grow at a rapid rate. For those people with more passive personality and who are new and inexperienced with music he will take initiative and provide clear guidance.
