Michael Snyder, originally from the Catskill Mountains of New York State, moved to Mesa in 2007. He began accompanying musicals in the sixth grade, the first of them being “The Wizard of Oz.” He then started playing in his hometown church, Summer resorts, and other school musicals.
Michael went on to study music formally at Ithaca College, where he earned a BA in Music, with an emphasis in Piano. Years later, he also received a Master of Science Degree, with an emphasis in School Counseling. During this time period, he worked as a piano accompanist as part of a work fellowship.
Michael has been living and working in the valley quite steadily, as a piano teacher and performer. He has worked at Gilbert High School, Gilbert Classical Academy, Phoenix Union HS, Imagine Prep HS, MCC, CGCC, The Broadway Palm Dinner theater, Tempe Live Theater, Act One Youth theater, Copperstar Rep, and Mesa Encore Theater, where he is currently the staff musical director. In addition, He has worked in South Texas and Missouri as a piano accompanist for choirs and vocalists. He is also a certified substitute teacher and school counselor in the state of Arizona.
Michael has been teaching private piano lessons sporadically throughout his career, and greatly enjoys working with Teens/Youth. In terms of style and approach, he is relaxed and collaborative–that is- he will work with you to find music that YOU enjoy, within reason. While he feels that it is necessary to imbue his students with classical technique,he is MORE than happy to teach different styles of music, with a particular penchant for Broadway/musical theater!
