Patrick Behnke is a viola player, composer, improviser, and experienced educator in violin and viola across a wide range of age groups, and is a member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California.
Raised in the metropolitan Detroit, Michigan area, and currently living near Los Angeles, Patrick received a Bachelor of Music in viola performance from the University of Michigan, and a dual music performance and composition Master’s degree from the California Institute of the Arts. Patrick’s musical studies also include programs at the Orford Centre for the Arts in Orford, Quebec, Canada, and at the Vivekananda Institute for Indian Studies in Mysore, India.
Patrick is an avid collaborator in creative music. He often performs as a member of the performer-composer collective the Desert Quill Quartet, as well as frequently appearing with numerous other ensembles. Patrick has performed regularly at venues across the Los Angeles and Detroit areas, as well as performing at venues across the U.S. and Canada. Patrick’s compositions have been performed by the Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles (C3LA), the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, and ensembles in which he takes part.
Patrick’s musical involvement includes a range of styles and interests from Appalachian and Scottish fiddling to improvised music and working with experimental pop artists.
