Stephen Crawford

A native of Washington D.C., Stephen L. Crawford grew up in a rich musical environment. His high school experiences included working with such notable conductors as Roger Wagner, Gregg Smith and Daniel Pinkham. Stephen attended The Hartt School of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Choral Music/Conducting/Voice. Stephen opened his private vocal studio in Connecticut in 1982 and in Manhattan in 2001 and joined the faculty of The Hartt School of Music Community Division in 1986. Stephen has studied voice with William Diard, Samuel Gordon, Peter Harvey and Nancy Stokes-Milnes. In addition, he has coached with Joan Dornemann and Nico Castel from The Metropolitan Opera. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), and was the Regional Governor for the Northeast for The National Opera Association( NOA ). In addition, he is co-author with Nancy Stokes-Milnes of “The Vocal Journey: From First Lesson to Professional Debut”, a handbook for singers and teachers, soon to be published. Stephen now resides in the Greater Phoenix area, where he has a private vocal studio in Paradise Valley and is on the adjunct voice faculty at Scottsdale Community College. He is Past-President of the Central-Northern Arizona chapter of The National Association of Teachers of Singing. He has been Administrative Director of Intermezzo Young Artists Program, and also The Elardo International Opera Competition. Stephen L. Crawford is the founder, artistic director and CEO of several businesses – Arizona Vocal Artists, a training program for singers of all levels and Bio-Therapy Systems , a center for holistic healing, Reiki, Transformational Life Coachng, and Transpersonal Hypnotherapy as well as training in those areas (www.bio-therapysystems.com). Stephen received his training in healing arts at The Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, AZ and has completed his Reiki Master Teacher training privately with Deborah Dickinson, completed his certification in Transformational Life Coaching at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, is a member of the International Association of Coaches,  a Transpersonal Hypnotherapist and a member of The American Board of Hypnotherapy.
